What do you want your life song to be?

Kari Bailey

Well it is December 29th and this year is quickly coming to an end.  It is this time of year that you begin to reflect back on what has been and what is to come.  I am so thankful for a great 2011.  God has been so good to me and my family.  Physically, I am feeling better than I have felt in the last six years, my first-ever book was published this year, God has brought more healing into my life (physically, emotionally, and spiritually).  My marriage continues to thrive and grow.  Tony and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary this year.  Our son Tanner is a freshman and is such a joy to be around.  He is so full of life and laughter.  We are blessed that he is ours.  Our extended family is growing and doing great.  We have so many nieces and nephews, it is hard to keep count.  We have had some ups and downs this year within our family and church family but God has brought life into every area that has been bruised and crushed.  Our business continues to grow and provide for our family and for those around us.  God is doing some amazing things in the life of our family and church.  We have been blessed.  We are blessed!  Thank you Lord.  “Every good and perfect gift is from above.”  James 1:17

As important as it is to look back, reflect, and realize all that God has done over the past year it is equally important to look forward and dream for what you desire God to do for the upcoming year.  “Where there is no vision [no redemptive revelation of God], the people perish; but he who keeps the law [of God, which includes that of man]–blessed (happy, fortunate, and enviable) is he.”  Proverbs 29:18 amp  We need a vision for the future.  It is okay to dream, hope, and envision what you want your life to be like.  It is also okay to really evaluate and pray about those things that you want to change in your life.  It is in those times of deep reflection and prayer that our purpose can come forth and be birthed into reality.  Some people may call it making New Year’s Resolutions…what do you want to change in your life this year?  What would you do differently this year if given the chance?  What are you determined to accomplish this year?  What resolutions are you going to make as this new year approaches?  What is your vision or purpose for 2012?

As a christian I don’t really make New Year’s Resolutions anymore because I have come to realize that there is nothing that I can change or do in myself without the help and power of the Holy Spirit in me.  So for our purposes here instead of me asking you “What is your New Year’s Resolution?”  I am going to ask you a series of questions, “What do you want your life to stand for this year?  What purpose do you want to fulfill?  What is most important in your life right now?  Who and what are you going to give the majority of your time to this year?  What is your vision for your immediate future?  What are you hoping and dreaming God will do for you and your family this year?  What do you want changed in your life?  Where do you want to be this time next year?  To sum it all up…What do you want your life song to be?

As I was preparing for this last night I came across a scripture that sums up my life song for the upcoming year:  “For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”  1 Corinthians 2:2  I want my life song to be all about Christ and what He has done in my life.  This year I desire more of Him no matter what…no matter what is going on around me, no matter the circumstances of my life, no matter the stress, no matter the pain, no matter the restrictions.  I desire Christ more than anything and I want my desire to meet face to face with my actions, thoughts, and deeds.  I pray that I am more in love with Jesus and my family next year than I am right now.  I desire to be walking in more freedom tomorrow than I am today.  I desire more healing in my mind, body, and spirit.  I desire unity in my relationships.  I desire that love rule my life.  I want to bring life to every situation and every person I meet.  My prayer is to be walking in my purpose of serving my God, my family, and everyone He puts in my path especially those with chronic pain and food allergies.  I don’t want to waste my time but be in step with the Spirit.  I want to fear God more than I fear people and put Him first in my decision-making.  I want to be just as much of a student as I am a teacher.  I want to walk with my head held high knowing who I am in Christ, never doubting for one minute how much He loves me and that I am His!  I pray my life song will forever sing gratefulness and thankfulness to my Creator King for His love and faithfulness towards me.  May you be encouraged to do the same!!!
